EAF Furnace

First mention of EAF Furnace goes back to year 1899. P. Héroult was granted a patent for manufacturing steel in a EAF Furnace.

On 17. 02. 1906 the very  first cast with electric arc was made with a weight of 500 kg. Since that time the electric arc furnace was continously increasing its share in world steel production. Nowadays more than 30% of world pstell productionis realized in EA Furnace.

The EA furnace belogns among the hearth production aggregates.  The charge is made almost 100% from scrap. EA furnace is a variably  usable aggregate. Mostly it is used for production of rolled long products such as concreting steels, beams, steel bars for volume forming (forging and forming operations).

For production of large products steel from EAF is preferentially used. Installed furnace has following parameters:

Ladle furnace

Ladle furnace is used as a melting aggregate. In the aggregate only dephosphorization and alloy adding during tapping are carried out. Cast finishing is made in ladle furnace. Here the steel reaches requires precize  composition, desulphurization is carried out and the cast is homogenized.

VD/ VOD facility

In VD/VOD the degassing is carried out. To achieve this the deep vacuum is ste under 3 Torr, this is kept for 20 minutes. By this it is possible to achieve lower content of hydrogen and partly lower content of nitrogen which results in preventing of presence of floccules in finished product. The facility is also used for improvement of oxidic microcleanness.

Casting facility

In POLDI Hüute s.r.o. the steel is casted from the bottom. Ingot sizes are from 700kg to 55 tons. There are 2 casting channels and 2 casting cranes. Heavy ingots from 13 tons are casted by casting cars. This helps to maintain the most precise required technological casting parameters.
