Laboratories in POLDI Hütte s.r.o.
The main purpose of the Poldi Hütte s.r.o. laboratories is to perform input and output checks. Metallurgical products and input raw materials are checked using standard inspection methods. The quality of the products is assessed in terms of chemical composition, mechanical properties and microstructure.
The chemical laboratory performs analyses of ferrous alloys and metals and metals designated as batches for furnaces. It also performs chemical analyses of steel and alloys to meet the needs of steel-works, comprehensive analyses of finished casts, determines the content of gases, important elements and delta ferrite in steels. The chemical laboratory uses the following analytical equipment:
- SPEKTRO spectrometer,
- ARL spectrometer,
- ferritometer,
- LECO CS-244 analyser,
- LECO CS-225 analyser,
- LECO RH-404 analyser
To improve the efficiency of our incoming material quality control (steel waste and ingredients), a manual X-ray analyzer was purchased in 2006. NITON XLt is a high-performing, portable, manual device that is used to assess the content of measured samples with an X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF). This analyzer can be applied to a broad range of material assessment from scrap metal sorting to positive material identification. It is an activity that supports the processes of purchasing, steel making, forging, heat treatment and finishing production. Only experienced personnel, who have undergone thorough training, operate the analyzer. The personnel are accountable for gauge accuracy and correctness. With the purchase of this device, our laboratories gained another control and testing component that has been used to full extent to assess material quality at all stages of the steel production process. | ![]() |

The metallographic laboratory assesses the microstructure of steel in accordance with various international norms. It determines the distribution of carbides (Fine striping, carbidic streakiness, blistering), the level of contamination with non-metallic pickups and austenitic grain size. The microstructure of the steels is observed using a ZEISS light microscope and evaluated using a DHS image analyser.
The mechanical testing room performs traction tests (Rp, Rm, A, Z) at normal temperatures, Brinell and Rockwell hardness tests (HBW, HRC) and flexion impact tests at normal temperatures. The mechanical testing room has the following facilities at its disposal:
- Zwick/Roell LR150Lloyd shredder machine,
- 300J Charpy hammer,
- EMCOTEST M4U 075 universal hardness tester.
